What is a Foam Bevel Cutter?

A EVA foam bevel cutter is a specialized handheld tool used to cut angled edges—known as bevels—into lightweight crafting materials like EVA foam or foamboard. It allows for consistent, repeatable angled cuts without needing complex machinery or risky freehand techniques. This is especially useful in cosplay, model building, and prop-making, where precise angles are critical for fitting armour panels, props, or terrain pieces seamlessly. This tool includes a guide rail and adjustable angle system that keeps the blade aligned as you move through the material.

This particular model is compatible with any standard 18 mm snap-off blade and features pre-set cutting angles at −15°, −30°, −45°, −60°, 90°, and positive 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60°. It supports both left- and right-handed users thanks to its symmetrical ergonomic design. Whether you're assembling armour or building layered diorama bases, a foam bevel cutter simplifies the process and ensures clean, professional results.

How does a Foam Bevel Cutter work?

Its use is quite straightforward: insert a fresh 18 mm blade into the holder, set your desired angle, and lock it in place. The base of the cutter rests flush against your material, and the angled blade slices cleanly as you apply gentle forward pressure. Because the blade remains at a fixed tilt, it produces a smooth, continuous bevelled edge that would be difficult to replicate with a regular craft knife. As always, to protect your work surface, we recommend using a hobby cutting mat underneath.

This tool comes with ten 9 mm SK5 black carbon steel blades, known for their strength, edge retention, and clean cutting ability. These thinner blades allow for deep, precise incisions while giving the user full control during intricate cuts. Unlike traditional utility knives, which can wander or catch on softer materials, this system delivers smooth motion and better accuracy, especially over long cuts or complex shapes. It's a must-have for hobbyists looking to improve both speed and consistency in their foam work.

What materials can it handle?

The foam bevel cutter is designed for use on soft to semi-rigid materials commonly used in cosplay, crafts, and hobby projects. Ideal materials include EVA foam sheets (especially 2–10 mm thick), foamboard, thin polystyrene (styrene), thick cardboard, thin plasticard plastics, foamed PVC, XPS, cork, balsa wood, and other modelling foams. These materials are frequently used in costume making, wargaming terrain, and architectural modelling, making our tool a versatile addition to any maker’s toolkit.

It is not recommended for cutting hard plastics, dense resin casts, or any metal-based material, as these could damage the blade and compromise safety. However, for its intended uses, it offers reliable performance and clean cuts with minimal effort. When working with large panels or delicate pieces that require angled joints, this cutting tool helps maintain structural integrity and visual appeal without frayed edges or uneven cuts.
